Comic Book Workshops

Comic book workshops!

Educators and Librarians, I can teach comic book workshops at your locations. Attendees will create their own comic story they can keep and take home after the class. Read about my experiences here:

Since 2003, I have been teaching Comic Book Workshops throughout the Los Angeles area. For several years I taught semester length classes at A Place Called Home in South Central Los Angeles. I'm currently teaching comics for both ArtworxLA and Inner City Arts, both in Los Angeles.

Over the years, I've also given talks and lessons in comic book creation at South El Monte Library and El Monte Library (El Monte), Lamada Park Library and Pasadena Public Library (Pasadena), Buena Vista Branch Library (Burbank), North Ranchito Elementary (Pico Rivera) and Daniel Phelan Elementary & GEEKS Comics (Whittier), among many other locations throughout LA and Orange County.

My programs are aimed for students of all ages, between Elementary and High School, and including college level. My programs can be divided up into multiple classes over several weeks, or one-time workshops averaging an hour. I can work with you regarding the structure of the class to fit your requirements.

The focus of my teaching is the storytelling aspects of comics, using words and pictures to tell a story. The art skills aren't the priority, because every student will have varying levels of skills. But if they want to tell a story, I'll guide them through the process of creating characters, story structure and the unique tools available to someone using comics as their storytelling platform. My classes are geared to encourage participation, so everyone has a chance to voice their ideas in the creation of the comic we work on during the hour.

Please contact me to discuss your needs, my fees and any other questions you may have.
